Hirakud Dam: About 20 km from Sambalpur, this gigantic dam was completed in 1957 which is considered as one of the longest earth dam in the world. It is over 60m height, 1100 meter long Hirakud dam .key section of masonry dam, with a further extension of over 3500 meter. A twenty one kilometer drive on the dyke offers a unique experience. the view of the dam with the vast expanse of water body from the watch tower is amazing.

Badrama Wildlife sanctuary: The wildlife sanctuary at Badrama popularly called Ushakothi is a densely forested area providing natural habitat to a wide variety of wild life. It is located about 50 kms east of Sambalpur.

Debrigad Wild life sanctuary: Its only 40 kms away from Sambalpur is worth to visit and experience the nature, Mainly dry deciduous forest adjoining Hirakud Dam and blanketing Barapahar Hills , an ideal home for natural habitats like deer, Sambar, Antelope, leopard, sloth beer etc, the water reservoir of Hirakud attracts lot of migratory birds in the winter. Huma: Only 30 km from Sambalpur, Huma has the one and only Leaning temple of Odsiha. This temple is dedicated to Lord shiva and located along the picturesque Mahanadi river. The colorful Kudo fishes in the river are very friendly and often feed by the pilgrims. A boat ride in the river to Temple Island is very pleasant.
